ASTRA – Alliance for Sustainable Technologies for Resilient Agriculture in Africa – is a Nigerien non-governmental organization headquartered in Niamey. It is also apolitical, nonprofit, and driven by a spirit of volunteerism in support of sustainable agricultural development in Niger.
ASTRA brings together [researchers, agronomists, technicians and producers – to be specified] around one conviction: agricultural innovations that work in research stations must reach agro-pastoralists’ fields and herds.

Our goal : Contribute to food security and improved incomes for Nigerien agro-pastoralists by disseminating a comprehensive technology package adapted to Niger’s agroecological conditions, while ensuring the sustainability of production systems.
Our mission
To make agricultural innovations and technologies accessible to agro-pastoralists in order to sustainably improve their productivity, their incomes and their resilience to climate change.
Our vision
A Niger and a Sahel where every agro-pastoralist therefore has access to the knowledge, technologies, and services needed to produce more while preserving natural resources.
Our 6 Strategic Objectives
Certified seeds, fertilizers, biofertilizers, crop protection products, livestock feed and veterinary services, available at the right time and at an affordable cost.
Identify and disseminate varieties adapted to each agroecological zone of Niger.
Farmer field schools, demonstrations, hands-on training and local technical advice.
Cooperatives, producer groups and market access.
Agroecology, conservation agriculture, agroforestry and sustainable land management.
Particular attention to rural women, young people and vulnerable areas.
